The work ethic is what keeps the workplace together. Even though the work ethic in America has ceased to exist, the work ethic is not a lost cause in the United States. Because the workplace can thrive if the right steps are taken and people's motivation will start to take full effect on their work ethic. The work ethic in America can change if people treat their employees better, if the interview process changes, and if people start to develop a passion for their work. How a company treats its employees will affect that individual's performance. If an employer treats its employees with respect, flexibility and equality, then their performance and the outcome of their duties will be extremely superior to that of a disrespectful, cruel and unfair person. Everyone has heard of the golden rule, “Treat people the way you want to be treated.” It's not rocket science; rather, it is common knowledge. In the article “Generation Y-Not? written by Adam Stone, explains how the workplace could thrive and grow better if there was a code of ethics published and respected by everyone. People should leave their personal lives, such as sexuality, religion and personal issues, away from the workplace. The published code of ethics would help clarify the question "Am I okay or am I overstepping the boundaries?" » thoughts that everyone has already had at work. This would reduce workplace harassment and conflict that can arise when working with people who are judgmental about people who are not like them. Work ethic would begin to flourish because people would focus more on their work rather than conversing with their colleagues about personal issues. Work ethic can change when people treat others better in the workplace, but also when the interview process changes ... middle of paper ... doesn't change overnight or by rules established or tests carried out. on people by a psychologist. It changes by not seeing work as another day but rather another day to succeed and do better. The work ethic in America can change if people treat their employees better, if the interview process changes, and if people start to develop a passion for their work. The work ethic will change as long as someone lights a fire in the generations to come to work hard. Works Cited Egodigwe, Laura. “Fit in perfectly.” Black Business 37.1 (2006): 78.
