  • Essay / Piaget's Four Stages of Reasoning - 1112

I think the children of working-class men and women tend to have better manners and not get into as much trouble as working-class children average. One reason for this is the style of punishment used by many working class parents. I can say that growing up I would get my butt spanked, be grounded for days or even weeks, or have to stand in a corner because I wouldn't stop annoying my brother and my wife. sister. I believe that if corporal punishment was used more now, children would not have as many problems as they do. Middle-class parents tend to let their children get away with a little more than a working-class parent would. I'm not saying these parents let their children get away with murder, but they tend to overlook something the working class wouldn't want. Their punishment style may not be on the same level as working class parents. An example I can use for this is my niece. My sister never made my niece learn what it meant to earn a dollar or what it meant to not get what she wanted all the time. Well, because of this, my niece started having a lot of problems when she entered high school and even after she graduated. She can't have a job because she doesn't know what it's like to have to work. She responds to my sister because my sister never punished her that much and when she did she felt bad later and then left her unpunished, this could last for 2-3 days at most. After removing the punishment, my sister would take my niece shopping and buy her whatever she wanted, as a way of telling her I'm sorry for picking on you. This now poses a problem because my niece still believes she should get whatever she wants, no matter the cost. I guess what I'm really trying to say, it doesn't matter how you are raised because your ways of raising your children can change and be totally different from the ways you grew up with.
