    I. IntroductionAssessment is essential to the educational process since it allows teachers to diagnose students' difficulties and strengths and provide positive, encouraging and useful feedback to learners since it not only measures student performance but also the progress they make (Lennon, 2012). , p.4). Along the same lines, an article on classroom assessment states that “assessment is a systematic process of collecting information about what a student knows, is able to do, and is learning to do.” Additionally, the information collected during the assessment process forms the basis for decision-making and planning for teaching and learning. To summarize, assessment is an integral part of teaching that enhances, empowers and celebrates student learning (Classroom Assessment, ndp3). Regarding the important role that assessment plays in the language classroom, the aim of the article is to design a formal progress test to assess the communicative language use of a target group. Therefore, to justify the test in relation to its theoretical basis, we will first present the type of test according to its objective. Secondly, it will be discussed whether the test could be considered a second or third generation. Third, the principles of language testing will be outlined in relation to the designed test. Fourth, relevant scales. Fifth, the description of the test and the instructions for scoring the test will be described and finally the conclusion will be given.II. Type of test according to its purpose The type of test is a progress test, according to Bachman (1990), progress tests provide relevant information to make adjustments or modifications to the program.
