Life should be about creating beauty, happiness and sincerity, however, our generation has allowed these values ββto diminish in the form of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying occurs when a person uses technology to threaten, harass, embarrass, or publicly target another person (New, 2012). The technologies that are beginning to be used are no longer just computers, but have expanded to phones, tablets and even gaming systems (New, 2012). By definition, cyberbullying is used to describe the misuse of technology between children (New, 2012). The definition of cyberbullying is not interchangeable when it comes to adults and children. When an adult misuses the Internet to harm others, it is considered cyberstalking or cyberstalking, which can result in prison time if convicted (New, 2012). There are many methods that can shame or hurt another person. through cyberbullying. Some of the less visible things, which become more and more apparent over time, are things like impersonating a victim online, posting personal information, photos or engineered videos to break down a person's personal character or physical traits (New, 2012). The most visible forms of cyberbullying are carried out in the form of text messages, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media websites. Although there are ways for children to block certain content, it is almost impossible to get rid of all cyberbullying on the Internet. Some pages were specifically created to harass, intimidate, and harm people who use these websites (New, 2012). Awareness is growing about this issue due to the number of children who are harmed by the actions of others online. The reason why cyberbullying can be... middle of paper ... citizens, schools, state officials, and congress should step up their efforts and help prevent cyberbullying in our country. Our students should not be afraid to walk around their school because they are afraid of something someone might post about them online. The younger generation, and the United States as a whole, need to be more aware of how this form of bullying can harm a person's well-being.
