When we think of Pelagius, we think of Pelagianism and the controversy surrounding these ideas. Although he is known as a false teacher, his ideas had an impact on the society of his time and some still exist today. In this essay, I will discuss who Pelagius was and some of his main theological principles and ideas that still exist today. I will go further and explain how Augustine viewed Pelagius' theology. Finally, I will discuss the connection between sin and the Pelagian controversy. Pelagius was a British-born Roman ascetic well known for his denial of original sin. He was a monk who preached to the people that humans have the ability to refuse to do or think evil and to seek God. He taught his belief that man was not corrupted by the fall of Adam. He believed that man could do good works that would ultimately please God and that these works would be what would save man.
