Since Hong Kong was removed from the list of colonies at the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 and the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong was about to be discussed, Hong Kong People have developed divided opinions on this major concern. While some left-wing parties rejoiced over Hong Kong's return to the motherland, most Hong Kongers felt helpless in the face of the uncertain future. People were so afraid that they avoided talking about it, as if the subject only existed when they discussed it. In the 1970s, except for some authors and academics, few people were willing to express their thoughts on the subject. People only addressed the issue in the 1990s, when the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong was officially discussed. Then, pop songs about the future of Hong Kong became a new trend. In this article, I chose 《北角汽車渡海碼頭》, a poem by Jaa Si (也斯) and 〈皇后大道東〉, a pop song by Lo Tai-yu to illustrate the perplexity of Hong Kong people before the handover. The texts are collected for analysis because their depictions of the Hong Kong cityscape and citizens dealing with the same topic at different times are not entirely the same, although both include helplessness and bewilderment .《北角汽車渡海碼頭》, a poem written by Jaa Si in 1974, it depicts the poet's emotions while on the platform. Jaa Si was a famous author, but what sets him apart from other writers is his preference for Hong Kong. Jaa Si loved to confront his hometown and explore the relationship between the urban landscape and urban life, pioneering the development of Hong Kong urban poetry. In one of his books, Jaa Si wrote that the city, the background of a literary work, largely contributed to its production (1985).
