    Over the past hundred years, English has become the most important language in the world. In contemporary times, learning any foreign language has become both fashionable and necessary. But is there a perfect method that can be applied to achieve the appropriate level of English? I have been learning English for over 10 years, but I never realized that there are so many different techniques and approaches to teaching English as a second language. During my studies, I noticed that I had experienced some of these in primary and secondary school. In this essay, I would like to present my personal opinions and reflections on the approaches I encountered, the way they were presented and used by my English teachers. First of all, I want to focus on the Grammar-Translation method. Personally, I think many teachers use this technique when teaching a foreign language, but they don't even realize it. We can say that this is the most common method, as it is considered quite simple. I argue that there is nothing more complicated than giving students a passage to translate from one language to another. Is it interesting or stimulating for students? I don't think so. I remember doing a lot of translation at school and it wasn't my favorite activity. Furthermore, it was difficult for us to find any use for it. Other than that, most of my classmates were just plain bored. Sometimes it was too difficult and you had to spend many hours to find the meaning of a particular word in a dictionary. This was definitely not how I wanted to learn English. Moreover, translating a literary text was something totally useless for me. And although we have rarely been exposed to such translation...... middle of paper ...... teacher and gave commands to the class. Our favorite game was “Simon Says”. This was considered quite easy because students were not required to repeat commands but respond physically. Even when someone made a mistake and showed something wrong, he didn't get discouraged, because for us it was like playing without learning. In the final analysis, I must admit that I have not found the perfect method for teaching. English. Each technique has its advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on the teacher; how and what he will adopt from a particular approach to his course. One thing is certain: we should not force students to learn a language in the way that suits us best. To summarize, I would like to quote a sentence that I found very interesting: “If students don't learn the way you teach, teach them the way they learn.”.
