Have you ever imagined what life would be like if our country was completely dominated by the government? What if every day was a routine determined by our leaders? Life as we know it would be impeccable, but too perfect. Jonas from The Giver lives in a world extraordinarily similar to this one. Its leaders have manufactured a system that forces the community to have absolutely no feelings and its citizens have no ability to make decisions for themselves. Jonas' uniform world has many differences from ours, but also some similarities. Our worlds differ in their ability to feel and make decisions, as well as in their diversity; however, both share similar laws. To begin with, Jonas's world and the United States are different from each other because in our country we have feelings and opinions, and we can make our own decisions. Jonas's utopian world can achieve neither. For example, we experience love, hate, anger, jealousy, and many other feelings associated with being human. Jonas' family and friends do not have the capacity to experience such feelings, and many do. ...
