    Many people might think that discrimination only affects people of color, but they are wrong because from what the United States and global society has seen, it is different. It may be true that in early history there were many cases involving people of color in their fight for their civil rights and freedoms, but also that slavery did not only involve African-Americans, but also other ethnic tics. Discrimination can occur when race, gender and class are included. In the famous Wal-Mart V. Dukes case, a woman decided to file a complaint with Walmart because she felt she had been discriminated against solely because of her gender. “If we add to this the fact that women had to wait on average longer than their male counterparts to obtain their first promotion to the position of deputy director (4.38 years compared to 2.86 years), we can affirm that statistics reveal a pattern of discrimination (Owusu 2)", this shows that in reality, many women have to wait years longer than their counterparts because they are women.
