  • Essay / The student is the most extraordinary - 1340

Teachers will always have that one student in their class who is very disruptive, who doesn't do well in class and who acts like they don't care about their grade. Some teachers will think that this child cannot be changed and just want him out of their classroom. Other teachers will see this student as a gift. Once you research this student's background and talk to this student one-on-one, you may find that they are acting this way for a certain reason. The teachers who see these students as more than “problem kids” are the most extraordinary. The young man I chose to build bridges with is MN. He is a 15-year-old African-American with a 1.78 GPA. Mr. N received 6.8 credits out of 8 last year. MN's personality type should be extroverted. I would say he's extroverted because he's a social butterfly. The reason I chose this particular student is because he has very high potential, a great high school program, but he doesn't have the push he really needs. Unfortunately, I was unable to obtain any basic information from this student. During class, Ms. Pendleton asks the student to repeat the word or phrase after her, several times throughout the class. The class knows how to do it when they say “Repeat” in French. She also has students work with partners by having a conversation about what they have just learned, in French. All this time, MN spends it with his head down, talking loudly to himself, disturbing the other students or shouting unnecessary things. When the teacher asks MN to cooperate with her, he disrespects her by responding. When MN does this, Ms. Pendleton will try to redirect him. To redirect him, she tries to be his partner instead. This position...... middle of paper ......tions, determining their advantages and disadvantages. 9) Adopt a strategy. 10) When you act, watch the implications of your actions. I believe that if I used these 10 strategies, it would not only help me help the student, but it would also teach me to become a better teacher. It is extremely important to ensure that more time is given to students who really need a positive boost. If you find elements to combine in your lesson that interest the student, stay on top of what's going on in the student's life, and set strict rules throughout your class, we hope this will help your student become a more effective learner. I wish I had more time in class to get more information about my student and test my approaches to building bridges with him. I want to take the teaching styles I learned in this lesson and apply them to my classroom..
