    In the story Second Class Citizen, Buchi Emecheta shows what African women experience in modern Nigerian society and explains why they should be treated equally . In history, this provides us with a great example of how men have treated women and how men should never mistreat women in any way. In the story Second Class Citizen, gender and sexuality were represented in the novel. It shows how there should be no gender more important than the other and how everyone should be treated the same, whether they are a woman or a man. Adah was brought in with the belief that she was just a woman who would always be beneath and inferior to the male sex. She was at a disadvantage going to school, but she rebelled even when she was little and went to school trying everything she could. She was taught to only be a good wife and not to be a separate woman. All she had the right to know were the responsibilities of a woman in a household. Her struggle continued after her father died and she was taken to live with an uncle. When she got married, she had almost no education, she had to work to achieve her dream of traveling abroad, even when everything and everyone treated her like she was nothing. Everything must always be against her. She achieved her goal with perception and not by force, she showed everyone that she could do better than her brother, her father, her father-in-law, her uncle and even her own husband. She did not admire her husband before feeding or clothing her children, it was through her power that her husband was able to travel abroad and when she was not accepted and did not was able to travel the same way as him, but she didn't give up, she really wanted her dreams to come true.
