Essay / Perception, kinesics, initial interaction and...
Standing on a street corner waiting for a guy to pick you up for sex is probably not an idle way to start a romantic relationship , at least, this is not a way to start one that will last more than a week or a few days. But in the film, a wealthy businessman, Edward, picks up Pretty Woman Vivien. As the film progresses, they develop an intense bond with each other. While watching this movie, I came across the four major concepts that I believe played a major role in the movie Perception, Kinesics, Initial Interaction, and Self-Concept/Estimation. Kinesics is the study of body movements and gestures. There are many forms of kinesics, but the most common form depicted in this film is adapters. Adapters tend to be signs of tension or boredom and are generally not positive. Adapters are excessive, unmotivated movements, usually in the hands or feet (Beebe, Steven A., Susan J. Beebe, and Mark V. Redmond. "Nonverbal Messages). Adapters played an important role in the film . Fidgeting is Vivien's way of expressing herself to us when she's nervous. She fidgeted throughout dinner, she started fidgeting because she'd never been to one. such a fancy restaurant before, while attending a polo match, she began to become agitated because she was not in familiar surroundings and once again while on her way to the. opera. In all of these cases, she felt uncomfortable about her surroundings. Vivien's adapters helped us understand how she feels about a new environment. Being able to understand Vivien's adapters helped people. to better understand the transition she went through in the film, from hanging out on the streets of Hollywood Blvd, to shopping in Beverly Hills, to attending fancy dinners, and attending. at polo matches, its adapters tell us more than the middle of a paper...... communication: Relating to others.
