  • Essay / Man's Inhumanity to Man - 654

“Seeing someone's legs tied, hanging upside down while their feet are beaten, has a disturbing effect. Even the noise I will never forget, not only the screams but also the banging of the pipe falling on their bodies” (Conditions of detention). In many countries, “prisoners suffer human rights violations due to harsh treatment and conditions” (Conditions of Detention). Conditions involve cruel treatment of prisoners and solitary confinement for more than 20 years. According to Golding, the inhumane treatment and harsh conditions imposed on California prisoners show the savagery of human nature and its flaws that lead to the deficiency of a society. As the prisoners prepared for their lives in prison, the prison authorities also began planning the torture procedures they would impose on the helpless prisoners. The prisoners were treated in difficult conditions considered intolerable with regard to human dignity. The people who were about to be released from prison chose to die rather than stay a few more days and be tortured by these beasts. “No one wants to die…yet in this current system of intense torture, what choice do we have? have?" (Cline). Another such statement leaked to journalists led to consideration of the innate inhumane nature of these men: "The cell was about 12 square meters... At night, everyone had to lie down on the side, because there was not enough room to lie on the back. To use the toilet at night, you had to wake up the people sleeping in the toilet. Both toilets were just holes. in the ground and whatever function you performed in the toilet, the whole cell could see you” (“Conditions of detention”). strike to protest against the conditions of isolation.
