Critical Thinking Case Study Faith Community Hospital's mission statement is: "With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of people in the communities we serve through a full continuum of services delivered in collaboration with partners who share the same vision and values. The problem is that Faith Community Hospital staff members are not living up to this mission statement. The hospital is currently facing many serious problems and, unless immediate action is taken, it is almost certain that it will come under legal attack for several reasons and will experience serious financial difficulties. Faith Community Hospital is a non-profit organization, but we operate a business that has significant costs, including payroll, insurance premiums, hospital maintenance and public services. We saw a 7% decrease in the patient population. At the same time, around 28% of our costs are fixed costs. Fixed costs are costs that do not fluctuate based on the current number of patients. If the hospital maintains its current patient numbers at 7,863 patients and 39,866 patient days, the hospital will need to reduce its fixed costs by 15% just to break even. A year ago, the hospital's costs were $217.00 per patient per day. The latest figures from the accounts department show that this figure has risen to $240.
