Essay / Ted Bundy: The Making of a Serial Killer - 1176
Is Ted Bundy an average serial killer? What do you think of when you hear the words serial killer? Generally, a serial killer is a person who seeks out young and weak victims, most often women, because they are the weakest and cannot fight back to defend themselves. As Serge-Moses Pakhomou says, “The term “serial killer” was invented by Robert Ressler (Ressler & Shachtman, 1992, 1997) in the 1970s to replace the label “murders committed by strangers” and reflect the repetition of murders committed by foreigners. (serial) nature of these murders” (219). Ted Bundy is not a typical serial killer, he is very different because he had a preference for the woman he wanted to kill. “This group of offenders who have committed a series of sexually motivated murders are referred to in this research as serial killers” (220). It's also almost as if he's a famous murderer; it's so well known and popular, but no one really knows how badly it's been ruined. Bundy didn't go out and randomly attack young and weak people. He had a guy. There are several factors in the creation of this serial killer; Ted Bundy's difficult childhood life, pornography and the rejection of his beloved Stephanie Brookes. Ted Bundy didn't have the best or easiest life growing up. According to Rachael Bell, when Ted was growing up, he had no idea who his father was and was made to believe that his grandmother and grandfather were his parents and that his mother was his sister. They did this because they wanted to protect her mother from the ridicule and prejudice that came with being a single mother. Bell also informs us that when Ted was 4 years old, he and his mother moved away and she married a man named John. Bundy never had anything to do with his father-in-law, although he made subtle efforts to include the middle of the papers. Aggressive Behavior 34.4 (2008): 341-351. Elite Academic Research. Web.
