    Alfred Hitchcock's You PsychoPsycho has been hailed by many movie fans as one of the best horror films of all time. The 1960 success was the starting point for numerous spin-offs, remakes and books. Yet with the horror film genre constantly being improved and changed, is Psycho really a horror film? Compared to modern films, Psycho doesn't really have the same elements that scare audiences today. Although Psycho is iconic, its categorization in film has changed significantly since its release in 1960. Advances in special effects, acting, and technology as a whole make the horror genre very different from that of fifty years ago. Psycho has truly lost its horror label because the film does not contain "horror" elements throughout the film. Additionally, compared to today's films, the overall plot of the film is not terrifying to the point that every moment could be a character's last. Second, today's horror films have subgenres.
