Wasting threatens the lives of young children around the world. In many third world countries, children suffer from undernourishment or malnutrition. Statistics show that fifty-one million children around the world suffer from wasting, which is the lack of nutrition necessary for human growth. The cause of most undernourished children in third world countries is poverty. Families in third world countries cannot afford to feed themselves or their country does not have these resources. Villages in Africa often lack the resources to obtain food and clean water, which can cause children to contract certain bacteria, leading to undernourishment. (WHO, 2012) Overweight and obesity affect many different people and at different times in their lives. The group most affected by overweight and obesity is non-Hispanic blacks, with a rate of 47%.
