    Walt Disney once said: “The times in which we live are the most extraordinary that the world has ever known. There are new concepts of things, and we now have the tools to turn these concepts into realities. We are moving forward.” Disney was a great thinker, inventor and innovator. His greatest belief that he lived by throughout his life was that we should follow our dreams, achieve them and do what makes us happy, not rich. Walter Elias Disney, better known as Walt Disney, was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901. His father, Elias, was a strict and religious man (Walt Disney Biography). Walt's mother, Flora, brought laughter and warmth to the family (Isbouts). Walt was the fourth of five children. He had three older brothers — Roy, Raymond and Hubert — and a younger sister — Ruth. Growing up, the Disneys didn't have many toys to play with, however, Walt loved drawing and cartoons. In 1906, the Disneys moved to Marceline, Missouri (Isbouts). There they owned a farm with many animals (Walt Disney Biography). Walt grew to love animals and learned the value of teamwork while living on the farm. His family then moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1911, when Elias contracted typhoid (Isbouts) and their farm went bankrupt (Walt Disney Biography). In Kansas City, Walt and his brother Roy worked at a newspaper their father had purchased. Elias was a perfectionist and so he was hard on his sons while they worked. It was around this time that Walt began to become interested in entertainment. He went to vaudeville and Charlie Chaplin shows, then created sketches with his friend Walt Pfeiffer (Isbouts). In 1917, Elias, Flora and Ruth returned to Chicago to start a jelly business.
