THE IMPACT OF SOCIETY SERVICES ON MOTIVATION AND PRODUCTIVITY IN THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC SECTOR A CASE STUDY OF THE ART AND CIVILIZATION CENTER BLACK AND AFRICAN CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Cowling and Mailer (1992) and Coventry and Barker (1988) pointed out that well-being is an attitude or commitment of a company to care for its employees. Employee wellness is a broad topic that includes different services, benefits, and incentives offered to employees by employers. Coventry and Barker (1988) argue that employee welfare includes the provision of canteens and savings schemes; pension funds, leave allowances, provision of loans in case of difficulties; assistance to staff transferred to another area and social benefits. Therefore, employee well-being is about the happiness, well-being and prosperity of employees. The objective of social services is to reduce all forms of stress (physical, mental and psychological) which may attempt to affect employees at work. According to Armstrong (2006), employee social services increase loyalty and motivation. This implies that employee well-being increases their standard of living, inspires loyalty and dedication, increases efficiency and promotes a healthy work environment. It is necessary for all organizations to have set goals, therefore it is necessary to develop motivation strategies that would motivate employees to improve their performance and increase their productivity. Social services can improve performance and productivity if planned properly.1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENTManagers have the middle of paper ......nt about worker well-being, performance, and productivity.
