Essay / The Pros and Cons of Abortion - 1716
An incompetent cervix can result in miscarriages, and in subsequent pregnancies it can cause miscarriages or make it very difficult to maintain a baby's weight. This is due to the premature and forced opening of the cervix. Medical equipment used for abortions can accidentally stab or cut organs in your body like the uterus, bowel, or bladder. Immediate surgery is necessary and sometimes a hysterectomy. The tools used during an abortion can easily cause scarring of the uterine wall, so that an already sterilized embryo cannot attach to it, leading to miscarriage and can sometimes render the woman completely infertile. An ectopic pregnancy, in which the embryo attaches and begins to develop inside one of the fallopian tubes, is much more likely to occur after an abortion and this type of pregnancy puts the mother's life in danger. (Birthmothers, risks of abortion) A woman who has had an abortion is 65% more likely to develop long-term clinical depression than a woman who has not had an abortion and a woman without a history anxiety.
