Although many believe that single-sex schools are beneficial, the facts prove that the philosophy of. basis of single-sex schools is flawed Therefore, the nature of single-sex schools promotes inequality and does not prepare students for success in the short or long term. From the beginning of this issue, people agreed that when. schools segregate by sex, this promotes inequalities in the classroom. Many would argue that single-sex classrooms and schools defy the United States Constitution because they believe all schoolchildren should have equal learning advantages (Piechura-Couture & Gandy). The Constitution referred to racial segregation, but the same message can be applied to sex segregation. Part of the reason people believe single-sex schools are unequal is due in part to the views shared by Leonard Sax. He believes that girls and boys must learn differently to be more successful. He gave the following examples: girls don't do as well on tests under stress and therefore won't take timed tests, and boys who like to read and are closer friends with girls should be pushed to interact with boys “normal” so that they are more successful.
