  • Essay / The Story of UNICEF - 1015

During recent tragic events, one organization has been there to provide support and workers to help save people and countries. This organization is called the United Nations. The United Nations was founded in 1945 and this year 2015 celebrates its 70th anniversary. Since 1945, the United Nations has accomplished countless incredible acts to help the countries of the world come together and create peace. The United Nations has created an open door for governments to communicate openly and securely, allowing them to solve problems together through communication rather than violence. Before the creation of the United Nations, another organization was created. After the First World War, in 1919, the Treaty, one of these parts, was called UNICEF. UNICEF stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. As its name suggests, UNICEF cares for children in dire conditions. UNICEF was established in December 1946 by the United Nations. The United Nations saw children in Europe who, after the war, found themselves homeless, poor and in need of health care. UNICEF was only supposed to exist for a few years, until the post-World War II crisis was resolved. However, in 1953, the United Nations General Assembly granted UNICEF a permanent position within the United Nations system: "All children have the right to survive, thrive and realize their potential, benefit from a better world. ยป (UNICEF Who We Are, nd). People around the world would agree that this is something the world needs to live with. People would say that creating child soldiers is unethical; that young children should not be allowed to enter the sex trade, but we still see children in these situations. These children are the world's next generation, so how are they being trained to become the next world leaders? This is what UNICEF is trying to help. UNICEF is here to help save these children and give them the future they need.
