Achilles and Hector are both great men and mighty warriors, but they differ in many ways. Comparing Hector and Achilles, it becomes clear who is the better hero of the two, Hector. Although Achilles is a powerful leader, a strong warrior, and has good character traits, they do not match Hector's. Achilles and Hector, although both powerful warriors, differ in their leadership, human qualities and family life. Both Hector and Achilles were exceptional leaders in different times and for different reasons. As a military leader, Achilles killed many more than Hector, but he was adamant. Comparing combat skills, Hector is inferior in ability to Achilles, but he is a much better commander. By comparing the strengths and weaknesses of each warrior, it can be proven that Hector is the greatest. Achilles always seemed to need help to win his battles in life, whether it was the help of a god, his immortality, or his indestructible armor. At the end of the epic, when Hector was killed by Achilles, he was still helped by Athena. Unlike Hector, who had no help from the gods and did his best in every difficult situation he encountered. Hector is a loving husband, father, son and brother; and he is an even stronger warrior and leader because of these things. Although Achilles is a commendable fighter, he is an unreliable leader who becomes angry when he does not get what he wants. His skill in combat sometimes helps to give hope to his fellow Greeks, but when he was growing up, he was pampered and spoiled. As Hector grew up, his siblings were captured by Achilles, sold into slavery, and shipped overseas to Samos, Imbros, and Lemnos.
