Title: Impact of Semester and Annual Examination System on Students of University of Lahore and Saeeda Waheed College of Nursing. Introduction: According to Dr. Munshi (2112) Examination means testing and estimating one's abilities and performance. It also means testing a student's knowledge through written or oral questions based on the prescribed syllabus scheduled for testing within a specified period of time” (Collins and O'Brien, 2011). The annual examination system is the system in which examinations are held at the end of each academic year. This examination system has a number of disadvantages. This encourages lethargy among students. This destroys the influence of teachers on students, which is directly responsible for indiscipline. It delineates programs that stunt the intellectual abilities of students and make them inactive. It promotes cramming and different assessment standards. The behavioral development of a learner cannot be judged properly in this system. It is extremely vulnerable to unfair means, unethical practices, chicanery, deception and fraud. Considering these disadvantages and shortcomings, the semester examination system was replaced by the annual system (Patil, 1984). In the semester examination system, semester means "half of an academic year, usually 16 to 18 weeks". This means that in the semester system, students would study half of the course. In the first semester, they will appear for the exam. Then, they would study the next half of the course in the second semester and appear for the exam again. In a semester examination system, the one-year course is divided into two semesters and the two-year course is divided into four semesters (Ballantyne, 2003). From my...... middle of article......
