The day we believe we cannot change our world is the day we believe we cannot influence our neighbor; because to influence one's neighbor is to influence part of the world. There is an undercurrent that politics is not commendable for Christian interaction and, at best, it should remain: a moral philosophy grounded in law. I would say that these positions are wrong. Politics is a human enterprise and deserves interaction from those who hold biblical theology. In short, Christians have an obligation to interact in politics. Those who have biblical theology are those of the Church. When I refer to the Church, I am talking about anything that would fall under a functioning community or individual who professes submission to Christ Jesus and the Bible Scriptures. Dietrich Bonhoeffer provides an explanation in his book, The Cost of Discipleship. In short, “the Church or congregation is an articulated organism.” (Bonhoeffer 1959, 252) Christians understand that they are a unique creation of one all-knowing and powerful God in three persons; a triune God. The Church lives in community with humanity and this God. This is best explained when we understand the character of God. God has an insatiable desire to know his creation, the human being. Just as a parent longs to interact with their developing child, God loves continued interaction with humanity. The child images the parent in the same way that humanity images God. To image God is to be similar but not the same. But, just as there is an emotional and spiritual disparity between child and parent, there is also a disparity between God and humanity.
