Essay / The Fat Lady Sings By Natalie - 1166
Our weight may not always be what it seems. There are many diets that are used today, some have been found to be healthy while others have been found to be unhealthy. Natalie, like many other people, gives dieters unrealistic expectations when it comes to weight loss. People want to believe that eating fewer calories will help them lose weight, but some never stop to think about what can happen to the body when they consume fewer calories than recommended. We also need to look at foods that contain chemicals known to cause cancer. Additionally, physical and emotional stress can also impact how the body digests food, making it more difficult for anyone trying to lose weight or at least keep it off. In Natalie's story "The Fat Lady Sings", published in "The Oprah Magazine" in August 2002, she made numerous references to dieting, even from a young age. At the age of nine, after spending two six-week spells in hospital, Natalie explained that she "grew up thin undernourished." in a moderate roundness” (Kusz. 2002). One has to wonder if she felt malnourished because she had a balanced diet during her hospital stay that was different from what she was used to. Natalie and her younger sister were both overweight, so their mother gave them each an egg for breakfast, bread and bologna for dinner, and a tiny dinner (Kusz. 2002). Based on what they were fed, according to information provided by the USDA, Natalie or her sister would have consumed enough calories during the day, based on the diet their mother put them on. An egg contains about seventy calories, while her lunch calories were about three hundred and fifty-nine calories...... middle of paper ... it wasn't written in her story, but she wrote about all the crises she experienced. I have personally found that when a person is trying to lose weight, they often expect that they will drop it quickly. Natalie also expected this when she wrote about sudden weight loss in the beginning, what she didn't explain was that when you first diet you actually lose a few pounds. of water weight before pounds. slowly begins to come off. During this time, people start to see less and less progress and they often stop because they don't see the results they want. One day she stopped struggling with her weight and simply chewed, swallowed, and continued mindfully” (Kusz, 2002). Mary Maxfield said: “Trust yourself. Trust your body. Meet your needs” (Graff, 2015) and once Natalie did that, she felt fitter than ever..
