  • Essay / Personality vs Attitude - 684

Many use personality and attitude as interchangeable words, when in reality they have completely different meanings. Personality is the visible aspect of a person's character as it impresses others. Attitude is the manner, disposition and feelings towards a person. Personality as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary is the combination of characteristics or qualities that form the distinctive character of an individual. Personalities are mostly stable. You won't be able to change the personality of every person you meet. To summarize personality in five words, I would use “we are who we are.” An example that I think is very helpful in clarifying the difference between personality and attitude is when people confuse Spider-Man. Spider-Man is a superhero destined to save the world from his evil enemies. Peter Parker is the normal guy under the mask. He's quite different from Spider-Man. On the other hand, attitude is defined as an established way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, usually reflected in a person's behavior. Your attitude may vary differently depending on the individual. Your attitude represents your likes or dislikes for a certain idea or situation. Attitude will change depending on situations and experiences. In the middle of the article, users suggested that an attitude has three main components: emotional, cognitive and behavioral. How you feel about the subject, your thoughts and beliefs on the subject, and how the attitude affects your behavior. Researchers have also found that attitudes can be explicit or implicit. Explicit attitudes are those that are obvious and of which we are aware. Implicit attitudes are unconscious, but they still play a role in our beliefs and attitudes. In conclusion, through many life experiences, I have learned that there are multiple differences between personality and attitude. The main difference between personality and attitude is that personality is similar to character, while attitude is about feeling something. Personality is the characteristics of a human being while their attitudes are their approach to a specific idea..
