More than 60% of Americans are obese, with obesity ranking as the second leading cause of preventable death. What you eat is who you are. More and more people are becoming obese, which is not healthy. Obese people will face serious chronic illnesses or stress. An obese person is not necessarily overweight but has too much body fat. Many experts use the BMI index to accurately measure body fat. BMI is calculated by a formula that includes a person's height and weight. Obesity is a major cause of insulin. Insulin is supposed to transport sugar in the blood to muscle and fat cells. Since 1980, the obesity rate in the United States has changed. In 2000, the obesity rate was 30%, but in 2013 it rose to 68%. Obesity could be a disease for some people because it increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and even certain cancers. The American Medical Association stated, “Recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community approaches this complex problem that affects approximately one in three Americans” (Harris, 2013). But instead, you can get the person to make healthier decisions by not eating something that could lead to weight gain, like foods with a lot of calories. Obesity is the fastest growing epidemic in America today and the only way to prevent it is to create more drugs to treat it and encourage healthy lifestyles. Why is obesity a growing problem? Lack of exercise is one of the main causes of overweight and obesity. . If you don't go out and exercise, your energy will balance out sometimes. The more energy you expend, the more weight you will gain. Instead of people going out to exercise... middle of paper... you have to lose to be a healthy person.
