Dally explains that she said she would help them and would testify that the Socs were drunk and looking for a fight and the boys had to fight back to protect themselves. When Johnny hears the news from Dally, he thinks that he and Ponyboy should return to their town and surrender. Johnny explains that they can't run away forever, and that it's not fair to let Darryl and Soda worry about Ponyboy, however, Dallas doesn't. wants Johnny to end up in prison and toughen up, so he tries to talk him out of turning himself in, because he doesn't want Johnny to end up being a person like him.
