  • Essay / Old is Unique - 848

When I was growing up in Nepal, I was irritated by listening to typical Nepali songs played on the radio or on a cassette player. Almost all the songs sounded the same with a slow, long rhythm and had a very old texture. There was no alternative to choose but to adopt what I am used to. But as I grew up and my musical tastes diversified with music from other cultures, I began to realize the differences they have with Nepali music. The songs that irritated me before are very particular, rare and not influenced by other cultures. Today, the music of other cultures has changed its course according to the demands of the audience, but the music of Nepal has not changed much. Even in this generation, Nepal has a very rare, unique, ancient music that is very rooted in its tradition and which tends to ignore external influences. Originally, Nepal has a very long musical history. Music is said to have been introduced to Nepal in the Middle Ages. At that time, the country was divided into several ruling states with their own cultural identities. The royal families' interest in the arts helped music assimilate into the mainstream and quickly flourish in the interest of voters. For example, dramas created at this time began to use the effect of sound and music. Ghazal is a type of music that is still relevant among the Nepalese population. Ghazal is a form of ancient music recited primarily in poetic form. It has a very specific shape. Each end word of a line rhymes with the previous one and each line shares the same meter. The lyrics are generally calming and emphasize anecdotes from real life and the environment. One way to understand it is that it is a poetic expression of the beauty of nature...... middle of paper ... the first part of the film uses songs to tell the story. They are sung by playback singers so that the actors dance on screen. The history of Nepali cinema is not long and hence has not yet gained its full presence. When it comes to music from particular cultures, there will always be a few tracks inspired by Western music. Nepal is no different. Although it is quite new to the culture, Western music is gradually taking hold. The younger generation loves it. Hip-hop, rock and rap are popular with young people. But on the contrary, a large number of people don't like it either. The music of Nepal is diverse in its own way. People from different ethnic groups come with various music. Its musical history is well preserved. It hasn't changed much from the music of other cultures. The influence of another culture is very minimal. It's old, but unique.
