Psychoanalytic Approach to Little Red Riding Hood Although there are many approaches used to understand literature, psychoanalytic interpretation most meaningfully attempts to utilize the symbolic mysteries of a work . Unlike the formal approach, which focuses entirely on formulation, the fascinating aspect of psychoanalytic investigation is that it seeks a purpose beyond what is strictly in the text. By insinuating the existence of innate and hidden motivations, it opens the way to a wide range of abstract and creative possibilities. Applied to Perrault’s “Little Red Riding Hood,” it rightly suggests evidence of underlying sexual motivations and tensions. Furthermore, this analysis reveals a constant interaction between the forces of the human psyche. Sigmund Freud pioneered the introduction of psychoanalytic concepts behind his main theory that all human behavior is primarily motivated by sexuality. Throughout Perrault's version of "Little Red Riding Hood," veiled sexual implications abound. In fact, the moral suggests that the entire point of the story is to warn against "sweet-tongued dangerous beasts" who enjoy robbing young women of their innocence. Likewise, the hungry wolf doesn't just eat the grandmother. Instead, Perrault clearly describes that before the consummation, "he threw himself on the right woman." And besides, before digesting the young girl, he invites her to bed. At that point, she “took off her clothes and went to lie down on the bed.” After thoroughly inspecting and commenting on almost every aspect of the wolf's "large" body parts, the wolf then "pounced on Little Red Riding Hood" to consume...... middle of paper ..... .l, she then goes into the woods to meet the id. There, she disobeys her mother's instructions and becomes "the poor child". From a moral point of view, these “pretty, well-bred girls” become “stupid” when talking to strangers. However "elegant" they were once considered, it is the child's fault if he leans too much toward the irrational id. Furthermore, Freud dramatically insinuates that this struggle can only end in death, which is exactly the fate of Little Red Riding Hood. Although the psychoanalytic approach is the most controversial interpretation of literature, it proves to be quite intriguing. In stories like this, the sexual connotations are clearly evident and thus justify the subtleties behind the approach. Maybe it's a little untraditional. However, this investigation remains both stimulating and brilliantly convincing..
