It changes the course of a lot of things that still exist today and have caused a lot of things. This war, alone, allowed the United States to become a world power and also reshaped the map of Europe and changed the political powers of the world. A handful of people are responsible for this war, but the main character who stands out during World War II is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was of course the supreme ruler or Führer of Germany. he initiated World War II when he invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 and was also the main figurehead of the Axis powers. Not only did he create one of the largest armies of the modern era, but he also had one of the largest empires in the modern era, his empire stretching from France all the way to the Soviet Union . Although he only lived 56 years, he had a very eventful life and in just 11 years he changed the shape of the world. His life took many unexpected turns but all these events would lead him to conquer Central Europe and become one of the key figures in modern history. It is the story of his life from his childhood through his life as a young adult to his ascension to Führer and his eventual death. Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Salzburg Vorstadt Braunau am Inn, Austria-Hungary, a town on the border with Bavaria, Germany. There he acquired the dialect of Lower Bavarian, rather than Austrian German, which was in his speech for the rest of his life. In 1895, his family moved to a small country... middle of paper ...... On April 1, Hitler was sentenced to five years in Landsberg Prison. There he received friendly treatment from the guards, and he was allowed to receive mail from his supporters and regular visits from party comrades. The Bavarian Supreme Court granted pardon and he was released from prison in December 1924, despite the objections of the public prosecutor. Including pre-trial detention, Hitler had served just over a year in prison. At Landsberg, Hitler dictated most of the first volume of Mein Kampf (My Struggle) to his deputy, Rudolf Hess. The book was an autobiography and a description of his ideas. The book outlines Hitler's plans to transform German society into one based on race. Some passages involved genocide. Published in two volumes in 1925 and 1926, it sold 228,000 copies between 1925 and 1932. A million copies were sold in 1933, the first year of Hitler's mandate..
