    My interest in the social work program began a few years after high school. In high school, after taking child development and psychology classes, I knew I would like to work where I can help children grow. After high school, I realized that I wanted to help children both emotionally and physically, and I knew that a career in social work with an emphasis on child protection was the right career to pursue. Being a social worker means a lot. You are a child's guide, friend and mentor. Most importantly, a social worker is a child's voice when it is too quiet for some to hear, even if to them it screams. You need to have great communication skills to be able to speak to a child, with gentle and kind words, when they are afraid. You must also be able to communicate with adults involved such as biological parents, foster parents, teachers, police and lawyers. All these people need different communication depending on their needs and knowledge.
