When I assume the position of police chief with a team of 150 sworn officers, it would be my duty to ensure the safety of my men as well as change the order so that the community would have good communication with our department. One way to implement our community policing is to first have other agencies partner with us to make that agency more community friendly. By partnering with other agencies in the community, we would strengthen our efforts to suppress crime and prevent crime. A government agency here in the Daytona Beach area would be Volusia County Community Assistance. This is an agency that could possibly help us provide the last known address if a person has been there for any type of services, as well as the addresses of their family members. There is certain information that one must provide when receiving help from this agency, and when you provide this information, you will need to provide the actual documents, not just word of mouth. Operation Weed and Seed, a U.S. Department of Justice community-based initiative, is an innovative and comprehensive multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention and community revitalization. Operation Weed and Seed is primarily a strategy – rather than a grant program – that aims to prevent, control and reduce violent crime, drug abuse and gang activity in designated high-crime neighborhoods across the country . (2005, US Department of Justice). This program would help us prevent crime and also reduce crime. People who are part of Weed and Seed could also help by providing information. A non-profit service provider in this community is Crime Stoppers. The Crime Stoppers...... middle of paper ......h even as we take desperate measures to save their family members. The community will see how important it is to capture these criminals and prevent crime. We would transform the organizational environment by creating more community neighborhood watches. There would also be more officers available to the community. I would rather install more substations to show that we are here for the community as well as to catch criminals. Officers as well as the community should carry out community service projects aimed at cleaning up the area and more targeted to attract crime. In order to increase technological capacity within local businesses, I would suggest video surveillance, as well as cameras in parking lots, live bodies. security guards in large lobbies and add more lighting in dark areas where people may travel at night.
