Essay / The 670 Eames Lounge Chair - 888
In 1956, the 670 Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman debuted on the NBC show Home hosted by Arlene Francis. Designed by Charles & Ray Eames, the new masterpiece of the era was considered the "modernized version of the old English club chair" which later became a true icon of 20th century design. History of the 670 Eames Lounge Chair Charles & Ray Eames, a prolific duo well known for their focus on designing furniture for mass production and retail at an affordable price, created one of the most unique seating collections in his time. Charles Eames wanted to meet the need for a suitably proportioned and comfortable lounge chair, made from the highest quality materials and produced with expert craftsmanship. Contrary to their initial goal, the duo developed the design for a rather high-end piece, designed to be luxurious and not intended for mass production. In 1940, husband and wife, together with Eero Saarinen, participated in the Museum. of the organic design competition in modern art furnishings. It was for this competition that they explored and studied plywood to make it adaptable to the contour of the human body and flexible according to the design they had in mind. However, this material had broken and cracked during several of their attempts. Much of their experience has been devoted to analyzing the resilience of plywood. The entire process of developing the chair itself took thirteen years to fully complete and finally produce. In 1945, following the episode of experimentation with plywood structures, the Eames produced a series of molded plywood chairs which came in different versions: lounge chair, dining room chair and with metal... middle of paper ......assets such as the bachelor pad, family rooms and office. By the existence of such replicas, the chair loses its exclusivity and value. It just changes the type of appreciation we have for the original piece of furniture. Replicas of these great pieces fail to show honor and respect for the designers and their heritage. However, the value of the chair has never decreased since the day it was made, which shows how the chair has managed to maintain its level of exclusivity. throughout these years.
