What steps can be followed to create inner happiness? I struggled for much of the last year asking myself this question. I'll give you a little insight into why I asked this question and what I found to be true. In addition to the research I obtained, I obtained thanks to the strong desire to find the answers to this question. Last year I lost three main people in my adult life. My grandmother died of cancer, my grandfather died of old age, and my great-grandmother died of a heart attack in her sleep. Although all of these members of my family are older and as they get older it is inevitable that they will pass away. I struggled with issues in my relationship with my boyfriend who was not present during these times as well as a job that I was extremely unhappy with. In chronological order, my great-grandmother died in January 2013, my grandfather died in July 2013, and my grandmother died in November, the week before Thanksgiving 2013. Needless to say, there was a lot of losses over the last twelve months. and each had its own significant emotional weight that remained afterwards. Many things contribute to what makes an individual happy, including genetics, relationships (love), a support system, and happiness in a career. Although I feel like an optimistic person overall, this past year of loss has made me extremely depressed. And consistent with this loss, I also had problems with my romantic relationship because my boyfriend was working out of town and was unable to physically provide me with the comfort I wanted during these times. And finally, doing what I can every day to go out and be friendly. Smile daily! If things are getting you down inside, remember the things that bring you happiness, no matter how simple they may be. Focus on these things, they will brighten up a gloomy day. I've been through a lot of tough times, but last year was huge! I learned that maintaining happiness in life is actually quite simple and that the pursuit of happiness lies in every moment. Remember to be grateful for everyday things such as: sunlight, fresh air and clean water are very easy places to start focusing this gratitude. From a grateful attitude comes a happier internal dialogue.
