    A description of SRSD practice or strategy: Developing a self-regulation strategy, also known as the model SRSD, is an educational approach that uses mnemonic devices to help struggling learners. SRSD is a student-centered, self-paced approach designed to develop strategies in four key areas: quality, knowledge, approach and self-efficacy. With decades of research to support its use, the benefits of SRSD encourage the struggling learner to develop self-awareness. Students learn four basic self-regulation strategies: 1. Goal Setting, 2. Self-Monitoring, 3. Self-Talk, and 4. Self-Reinforcement. He then has personal strategies which become automatic, guiding him to analyze a problem, to organize the information, then to regulate his behavior in relation to the assigned task. The SRSD model implements six key steps to empower the student. Step 1, Developing Basic Knowledge, aims to ensure that the student has learned, understands, and applies the skills taught. Step 2, Discuss It, is about motivation and willingness to learn. During this stage, students are encouraged to reflect on the process and monitor their own progress. Step 3, Model It, the introduction of the strategy steps is presented to the student. I think the out loud technique is taught with positive statements to motivate the student's efforts. Step 4, Memorize It, is where the student's use of paraphrasing is acceptable but where the steps begin to become automatic. Step 5, Support it, the teacher structures the teaching and slowly reduces the hints and prompts. Finally, step 6, independent practice, involves using the strategy correctly and consistently until the student freely applies it to other areas and other tasks. The SRSD model consistently showed significant improvement in the areas of performance, knowledge, strategic behavior, motivation, and perceptions, particularly for the student with mild intellectual disability. Explicit instruction in developing self-regulatory strategies systematically promotes self-efficacy through ongoing review, encouragement, and praise, teaching students with learning difficulties skills that support their efforts. Guided by SRSD skills, the student develops the motivation necessary to maintain attention and focus on the focused task, a common positive attribute acquired when SRSD is used with MID students. The support a student develops through these practical skills offsets the learned feelings of helplessness that many students with learning disabilities have developed due to academic failure..
