  • Essay / School Mission Statement - 1296

Only teachers responded that they were involved in developing the mission statement. Three teachers remember helping to revise the mission statement. The fourth teacher said that in the last five years she had been at the school, the mission statement had not been discussed. • Different answers were given regarding the management of the school. Four out of ten respondents said that the principal is seen as the leader of the school. Three teachers felt that they themselves were the leaders: two teachers explicitly named several of their colleagues. Only parents included themselves as leaders within the school. One paraeducator described a school leader as “any staff member trying to make a difference in a child’s life.” • There was no agreement among respondents as to who made school decisions. The paraeducators didn't really know who was making the decisions. Parents reported that they were involved in making academic decisions during committee meetings, but only parents involved in committees made decisions. Although teachers reported giving feedback during staff meetings, their overall opinion was that the principal made ultimate decisions regarding academics and professional activities.
