This statement leaves room for the following hypothesis: it is true that Anne must stay a few meters from the influence of her sisters in order to forge her own literary reputation and do something that hasn't been done yet, but readers of the Bronte sisters will certainly recognize that all three have much to share in artistic creation. Readers of The Tenant who are familiar with Jane Eyre cannot fail to recognize that Helen and Jane, the two female protagonists, bear many similarities. Like Jane, Helen is presented as the icon of change. Both characters make accusations against gender injustices. The two female heroines experienced the same fate: an unhappy marriage. The two heroines are orphans and exiled from the outside world. Both have confidence in themselves and their abilities.
