A Spanish retail giant and one of the largest fashion chains in the world, well known throughout the world. Zara is a multinational fashion company founded by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera in 1975. The company first opened its store in La Coruña, Galicia, Spain under the name Zorba, which later transformed into Zara until today and has successfully expanded throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and with its current head office known as "The Cube" based in the same location as the first store. Zara is part of the Inditex group along with other well-known brands such as Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti and Bershka. As the fastest growing fashion industry, Zara has opened more than 2,000 stores in 77 countries and enjoys a well-known brand image for its high-quality clothing with a huge range of designs and affordable prices. The stores are mostly company-owned, except in some areas where local law does not allow foreign companies. While the parent company, the Inditex group, has opened more than 6,000 stores, including Zara, in 88 countries. The founder, Amancio Ortega Gaona, served as chairman of the Inditex Group and its main shareholders were also ranked as the 4th richest person in the world by Forbes in 2014. In 2005, he was replaced by the current CEO Pablo Isla José Maria Castilian who began rebuilding the distribution system to make it more efficient. Inditex Group's financial report in 2012 shows total sales of $20.7 billion and Zara accounted for 66% of total sales, or $13.6 billion. Zara employed over 110,000 people in 2011. Zara produced a wide range of fashion items such as clothing, accessories, sports goods, cologne and many more for children and adults, men and women. To expand the business internationally, it will require high capital to establish. It is therefore crucial to have external investment to develop quickly. The company could go public or private to sell its shares on the stock market to raise funds for expansion. Another solution would be franchising, as shown by Zara's parent company, the Inditex group, which has both shareholders and franchisees around the world, which has allowed it to succeed in its internationalization process. As we can see, Zara possessed many of these business factors that enable it to succeed in the fashion industry. Many other successful businesses also have one or more of these factors, it just depends on how much effort each business puts into these factors..
