Essay / The difference between gender identity and gender role
Today in the world there are more people interested in their sexuality and how to understand it. Many people have tried to control certain feelings and interests on the subject of gender and human sexuality. Modern researchers have found different reasons why an individual would want to hide who they really are or become someone else. The research dates back to the Victorian period and what they thought about sex in general. American biologist Alfred Kinsey talks about sexology because he conducted research on human sexuality in 1947. Adults, even children, are conflicted about who they want to be and what sex they were born with. On the contrary, many psychologists have taught us different information about gender and human sexuality over the years and their evolution. Human sexuality includes psychological aspects such as gender identity, expression and variations of people. Sex, male or female, including chromosomes, behavior and sexual intercourse. According to the book “Psychology in action” written by Karen Huffman, gender role is defined as knowing the expectations of a man and a woman. Men are thought to appear strong, fearless, and to be the “breadwinners” of the family. On the other hand, women are seen as the housewife, doing the housework, taking care of the children and obeying her husband. But the definition of gender role has become a little blurred, as women have gained independence and men have moved into career fields previously thought to be reserved for women. In an article entitled “Boys will be girls”, author Cathy Gulli tells the story of a girl, Olie, born a boy but became a girl. Olie was born Oliver and even at a very young age, Olie's parents knew she was something...... middle of paper ......ogy. Modern researchers have opened our eyes to these kinds of problems, but there will be more to come. Works Cited Peplau, Letitia Anne. (nd) Human Sexaulity. 2/37.shortHuffman, K.
