  • Essay / We have NOT done enough to respond to the legacies of...

From what I have learned so far, it appears that contemporary society has responded to the legacies of historical globalization, but it did not do enough to satisfy those involved and affected. I have to disagree with this statement, as there are still some issues that I believe need to be addressed. Reasoning I have chosen the position of disagreement because, although contemporary society has responded to the legacies of historical globalization, I believe we have not yet done enough. Although we have definitely moved away from a Eurocentric perspective, certain connotations remain evident in our daily society in almost all countries. Even today there are very striking examples of how contemporary society has chosen racist or discriminatory paths. I've seen a lot of ignorant or bad choices made by people of higher power, like Putin banning gays from participating in the next Olympics he will host. Although he has revised this policy, I am still quite surprised by his ignorance of a decision he made, as he is a man with great power and responsibility. Regardless of how a different culture sees things, I think it's more of a problem caused by a legacy of historical globalization. If Europeans had not acted in such a discriminatory manner, would our society be more open-minded today? It is unlikely that a single issue from this era could have completely changed our future, but at least we would be on the path to a better future. A good reason I chose Disagree rather than Strongly Disagree or Both Agree is that Strongly Disagree, at least to me, makes it seem like we haven't even begun to respond to the legacies of historical globalization. I know some people... middle of paper ......I was told what shocked you the most? Do you think other major conflicts will arise with ethnocentric overtones? Agreed: yes you had to change your position, where would you go and why? Have we really done enough if society as a whole has not addressed these issues together? Strongly disagree: which argument among agree or strongly disagree agreement convinced you the most? How much more do we need to do before we start responding better to these legacies?
