Essay / My motivation to be a part of the maternity care field as a midwife
My ambition to become a midwife began in 2014, when I embarked on an extraordinary Gap Medics expedition to Tanzania. It was here, after being interested in the profession for some time, that I was inspired by my experiences and the midwives working there to pursue midwifery studies. I began my midwifery journey that same year gaining a Merit Award at Anglia Ruskin University. However, I was unable to complete my studies at that time due to an unforeseen family illness. I then thought it appropriate to postpone my dream until I could focus all my attention on providing excellent quality maternity care to women. I feel like now I can do it. I want to become a midwife so that I can actively make a difference by supporting women in one of the most important events of their lives. Say no to plagiarism. Through my various experiences, I have observed how to successfully integrate commitment, care, compassion, competence and communication into maternity care. This year I graduated with a degree in animal science. I found the modules on mammalian anatomy, reproduction and genetics extremely interesting because of their links to reproduction. Each of these units has advanced my knowledge of meiosis, hormones, reproductive processes, and fetal development. Additionally, college life has improved my ability to retain information, remain calm under pressure, and stay motivated. In 2017, I volunteered at a veterinary office. This experience and the Animal Health Sciences unit at university made me more aware of disease control.
