Essay / Religion in Africa is versatile, varied and abundant
Religions in Africa extend far beyond the common accepted boundaries within Western barriers in terms of religion. While Western religion is often separate, overwhelming, or distinct within its own borders, African religion can be versatile, varied, and abundant. Many different factors come into play in the religious practices of Africans, and this specific location is well known for its diversity and deep dedication to its specific religious practices. There are also specific distinctions between common religions based on geographic location from North to South. To begin with, it must be clear that religions in Africa extend beyond the scope of modern religions and traditions, and even though individuals are converting every day, there are still traces left in the lives of Africans which are rooted in the pre-modern religions of the region. Many of these religions are marked by single deities who rule over lesser deities, sacrifices and prayers. Although these are not the only qualities, they are prevalent in many different religions among indigenous peoples before modern religion made its way to the region. Although these practices have not died out, they are becoming less important in daily life, but there are fragments scattered throughout life from these religions. They often accompany modern religious practices because they are rooted in culture, and can be seen as a complement to religion rather than constituting a distinct separation (“Traditional Religions”).
