Fire Service Technology: Modern fire services are characterized by increased interactions between fire researchers and the service at large. The interactions were primarily aimed at producing research results that can be used to improve the efficiency and safety of firefighters. In developing technology suitable for fire services, recent research findings have shown that changes in construction methods and fuel loads have impacted the fire environment in structures residential (“Fire Fighting Research On-Line”, 2013). While these changes have transformed conventional fire behavior, they have also contributed to significant changes in firefighting equipment. The research findings have not only brought changes to firefighter behavior and equipment, but also resulted in the development of fire service technologies that are currently in use and continue to have enormous impacts. Examples of technologies in the fire service: The first technology used in the fire service was the World Wide Web which emerged as a major means of providing information to users and which was accompanied by a considerable growth in the recent past. With this technology, users can easily access information without any barriers related to distance and time (Jennings, n.d.). This facility has been mainly fueled and enhanced by extensive dissemination of online documents which removes barriers to the dissemination of information. Fire departments have primarily used this technology to distribute information over the web. Essentially, the World Wide Web is used by fire departments to provide information necessary for the analysis of fire service issues and fire policy concerns. As a result, it allows the collection of performance data for fire services which is used to guide...... middle of paper ......iatives will also contribute to the increase and advancement of fire protection devices smoke detection for fire services. . Most future fire service initiatives will focus on advances in smoke detection to improve the efficiency of fire service organizations. In conclusion, fire services are characterized by increased use of technology due to the increased need to improve public safety and fire protection. Some examples of technologies used by fire departments are the World Wide Web, geographic information system, and advanced signal analysis. Although the increased use of these technologies has had a huge impact on current fire service practices, they will affect the future direction of fire services. This implies that the efficiency and effectiveness of fire service organizations and initiatives in the future will rely on appropriate use of technology..
