Essay / My Knee Surgery - 1077
There are certain things that come into your life that you are not ready for. Teenagers believe they are invincible. When some people discover that they really aren't, it can affect their lives. I used to think I was invincible. Of course, having scrapes and bruises wasn't a problem for me, but I wasn't prepared for what was to come. Growing up, I played softball, basketball, volleyball, and competed in track and field. I was addicted to sports. They were my life all year long and I was excited to play all of my sports for my high school. Along with the rest of the basketball girls around, I started a summer basketball camp. There was a basketball tournament where we played 4 games in one day. During the match, an opponent stole the ball, so I chased her around the court. Once I reached her under their basket, I tripped over her foot, fell and heard something crunch. I was completely panicked. The referees ran towards me. All I could say was, “Something broke!” Something broke! » I couldn't bend my leg at the knee, it was scary. I was taken to the main hall to get out of there. I couldn't bend my leg for two weeks. Once I could bend my knee again, I started playing sports again. I took a break from basketball, but continued softball and volleyball. My knee didn't feel quite the same, but I thought it would pass. During my volleyball camp at Olivet Nazarene University, I was jumping to block and when I landed, my knee buckled and I knocked over my friend Christie. I couldn't believe this was happening again! As I couldn't get up, once again, the coach insisted that I go see Ozzy, the coach. He looked at my knee and thought I had torn my meniscus (the cartilage of the knee joint) and may have had a small tear in my MCL (the inner tendon of the knee). He insisted that I go to OAK Orthopedics (a health care practice that includes 8 orthopedic surgeons) to see Dr. Ellis. I wasn't afraid to go see the doctor, because I thought I knew what was wrong. I was told it would only take four weeks to heal. Dr. Ellis told me the same thing as Ozzy, but I took an x-ray first, just to make sure there were no fractures or broken bones..
