IntroductionA study of child mental health involves mental functioning and the way a child behaves and reacts to certain life situations. The study is done by exploring the physiological process and neurology of a child. The main areas of study include: concentration, mental functioning, emotions, acuity, character and cognition. There are two processes in a child's development that require parental attention: physical and mental development. This is the time when the parent may be able to determine whether a child is mentally or physically challenged. Child psychology depends on the development of the mind as well as genetic psychology. Genetic psychology studies how factors that affect genetics can influence the development of a child's personality, while developmental psychology examines the continued development of complex stages throughout a child's life. This begins at the birth of the child and progresses until death (Piaget and Inhelder, 2010). The mental health of a child depends on the care provided by the parents, which will ensure that the child acquires the necessary mental power; it will be social and improve the language. As the child acquires more knowledge, the mental power develops accordingly. Piaget suggests that parents play a major role in ensuring that their children obtain and have the tools necessary for interaction and the development of mental power. Research has shown that a child's performance at certain stages of development can change across regions, such as understanding math and social concepts. It is therefore not possible to place a child in just one stadium.
