This journal will reflect how I believe family has an influence on how people treat others in a society. I'm interviewing my great-aunt about race and racism. I explained how my great-grandmother, adopted by white people, shaped our thoughts about other races. I explain how my family is similar to African American families in the United States. I expressed my views on race and racism. Last time I talked about how I would ensure that my children and their children share the same views on race and racism as I do. Family Influence on Race and Racism I believe that family has an influence on how people perceive the world. At some point in our lives, we are told about race and racism. Personally, I believe that the way we treat others in our society is influenced by the backbone of a family. They are the mediator, the comforter, the teacher and the one who keeps the family together. My family has not been the same since my grandmother passed away in 2009. When my grandmother was alive, every year we had a family reunion at her house. On Sundays, she made sure all her children and grandchildren were at church each morning before Sunday school started. All the women in our family would get together and cook on Sundays too. Now that my grandmother is dead, we all celebrate her birthday. As Christians, we are taught to love everyone, no matter what. This has had an effect on how my family views other races. I know for a fact that anyone in my family would be okay with me dating or marrying someone of a different race. Like most African American families, my family values family. We may argue or fight, but we are all there for each other no matter what. My views on race and racism. After learning from my family about race and racism, I learned not to hate others because they are of a different race. I know racism still exists because I see it all the time in the media, on social media, and in my workplace. In my opinion, I don't see how someone can't love an individual they know nothing about. I also think it's a mistake to teach your children to dislike people of a certain race. According to my religion if you
