  • Essay / My goal to build a career in industrial engineering

I grew up in a city that has many heavy industries manufacturing steel, petroleum products and a port also in Visakhapatnam, India. I still remember watching the show “How it is Made” on the Discovery channel. It helped me think from a manufacturing perspective and how to simplify things. The industrial revolution has made enormous progress in every sector for ages. In recent decades, with the invention of automation, this industrial revolution has been called Industry 4.0. Get an Original EssayIn the 21st century, technological advancements have had a tremendous impact that has changed the manufacturing process with the implementation of robots, AI, Industrial Automation and 3D printing. The desire to learn more about technologies and manufactured products pushed me to learn more about these concepts and issues regarding industries which led me to my undergraduate studies in industrial engineering. I had completed my first degree from GITAM UNIVERSITY, one of the leading engineering institutions in Visakhapatnam (India). I graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Engineering. I was always interested in the algorithms that were introduced to me with the subject Operations, which attracted my interest towards solving business problems. The well-articulated program allowed me to learn various topics applicable in any industry such as Enterprise Resource Planning, Manufacturing, Materials Management, Operations Research, Total Quality Control , reliability, process re-engineering and supply chain management, which constitute the core operations. a manufacturing industry or a service industry. The introduction to the above courses inspired me to pursue my internship in the manufacturing sector. During my summer internship at “Bhilai Steel Plant”, which is the oldest steel manufacturing industry and is the first and leading producer of steel rails in India. The internship in such a prestigious company gave me great industrial experience in the industrial department. During my 4-week training, I had the chance to discover the SAP MM module and the supply chain of a department. By interacting with technicians, I gained knowledge of some manufacturing processes, detailed specifications and operation of furnaces, various preventive and planned maintenance practices, how to meet demand during shutdown, applied to a wide variety of manufacturing products. I observed the implementation of various TQM techniques, Just-In-Time, 5S practices. After my internship in this factory, I did a second internship at “Vizag Steel Plant”, which is one of the youngest steel factories. I had gained in-depth knowledge in Medium Merchant & Structural grinding unit. Here I had learned about various rolling, turning and cooling processes in manufacturing. As it is the youngest factory, I had the chance to experience the latest technologically advanced machines and processes. This exposure to manufacturing practices led me to carry out a final year project using both the experience gained in the industry and various optimization techniques to find the most optimal conditions of the different parameters affected during manufacturing. . The exposure gained during my internship led me to think about optimizing various factors involved during manufacturing such as material removal rate, forcesaffecting the cutting tool, etc. inspired me to search and find the optimal conditions. With this curiosity, I worked on a project in my final year titled “Optimization of Surface Roughness, Material Removal Rate and Cutting Forces in Turning of Al356.2 Alloy Using of the Taguchi technique. The project was highlighted by the elimination of repetitive experiments and an efficient material removal rate in an optimized time for the alloy. In this project, our team worked from preparing the alloy and casting it into a cylindrical rod to the final use of a center lathe by turning the metal rod. Through this project, I gained the real-time experience of manufacturing a product, collecting data related to various cutting parameters and analyzing the data using MINITAB 17 software, which led me to discover this application. This helped me provide a detailed analysis of the complex solution by validating the results using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the percentage contribution of each parameter. After completing my undergraduate studies, I started working for a multinational organization Accenture Solution Pvt. Ltd. for approximately 26 months as a quality assurance analyst with knowledge in the field of capital markets and financial services. It is difficult to work in a software industry, which places no limits on the application of my skills acquired during my undergraduate studies. I have worked for different roles starting from analyzing the requirements to delivering a quality product without any leakage of defects. I need to prepare the datasets used for quality testing that include both positive and negative scenarios. This helped me implement the skills learned in topics such as quality control, data sampling tools and methodologies. I have applied various process improvement techniques by implementing agile hybrid techniques which are most suited to the service industry, resulting in a significant decrease in downtime between development and testing and helped in delivering quality results with better productivity. I led a team of three people to automate the tool using JAVA and Selenium, which eliminated repetitive tasks from 10 days to 4 days and improved the process and use of resources. The projects carried out by my team allowed me to effectively develop my leadership skills. I would continually use all my professional experience that I have acquired over the last 2 years in such a way that it would benefit me in my higher studies. I had acquired various skills like Minitab, ARENA (Simulation), ANSYS, Auto-CAD, C and C++ improved analysis and programming skills. One of the members of the organization of the “Optimization Reinvented” event organized by the industrial engineering department advanced my management skills. Very well versed with many industrial tools used for automation during my work at Accenture. Tools like Selenium for automation, SQL for data extraction and many HP ALM project management tools, ETL tools for data extraction. Actively participated in delivering classroom presentations on supply chain, factory layout and project management techniques. Be a member of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Participate in the beach cleaning program under the Swatch Bharat program initiated by our Prime Minister detained in Visakhapatnam and a member of ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education).
