The marriage ceremony is different in many cultures around the world, as people have varied traditional customs and practices that go into consummating the marriage . WE can say that universally, the main reason one gets married is for two to spend the rest of eternity with their spouse, in love or forced, marriage binds two people together forever, sealing the act with a kiss of promise , to protect each other and to be there with each other. . Yet, tragically, in some cases, marriage is nothing more than a greedy means of acquiring power and materialistic value. In the Asian country of India, a horrific act of torture has been taking place for 2,500 years. This act has been referred to as bride burning. Bride burning is the practice of dousing a new bride with kerosene and setting her on fire to ultimately die. It is considered the most common form of dowry deaths.12 It is also known as bridal suicide, or murder of the bride during a callous ceremony. the hands of her husband and/or in-laws immediately after marriage. The reasons for this act mainly relate to the woman's husband and her family's dissatisfaction with the amount of dowry the woman was not able to provide to her husband. Generally, in Indian societies, women are considered as the strength of the household, they are considered as superior beings, while women are just an add-on prize that enhances their status and place in the society. Bride burning became a recognized health problem in India around the mid-1990s, when an overseas survey found that dowry deaths in India had risen astonishingly from about 400 per year in the early 1980s to about 5,800 per year. ..add up, achieve economic security, accumulate material wealth. Due to consumer avarice, the custom of dowry has spread among communities and social classes that do not normally indulge in these practices. Furthermore, the nature of consumer greed facilitates the need to demand more dowry since the dowry is representative of the social and economic status of both families and the extent to which their family coexists within the Indian caste system. Unfortunately, due to patriarchal attitudes, the groom and his family have greater bargaining power and are usually the ones to set dowry rates. Additionally, the economic model used to calculate the bride price takes into account the groom's education and future earning potential, while the bride's education and earning potential are only relevant to her societal role as best wife and mother..
